Mickey once asked me if I saw the same people every day. At first I didn't think so, but I'm starting to recognize people from day to day. Like Julianne Moore Girl. And Attractive Indian Guy. And that girl who looks like The Penguin. But they don't count. They all live in my apartment complex and take the same shuttle to work every day as me. I would also count the homeless guy who calls me "Miss Lady" or the one who stands 20 feet from the Meals on Wheels van begging for change, but they don't count either because they don't leave their pissing grounds that often. I guess by that token, the fruit stand guy who gives me a thumbs up and says Good Morning every day doesn’t count either.
Then I started to recognize Bitter Mean Bus Line Pushing Old Lady. And Cell Phone Gay Guy. And the Girl Who Reads Jonathan Livingston Seagull in Italian. But no one has stood out in my mind so much as the geek couple. They are always in the last car of the blue line train, sitting next to each other facing the rear. They are both...robust. She has large round glasses and long blond hair that is pulled into a braid, he bears a striking resemblance to the Comic Book Guy. She reads a book, he sleeps on her shoulder. What gets me is that these two have probably faced a life of ridicule from the Beautifuls; someone has cringed at the thought of having sex with or even the idea of these two having sex separately or together. They have probably thought at one point or another in their lives that they were going to be alone forever. But every morning he kisses her before he gets of the train, she smiles and watches him step onto the platform before she gets back to her book.
