Here Comes the JUDGE

It has taken me about a week to realize that I don't like the book I'm reading. A few years ago, I came across A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again on amazon, and emailed the link to myself as a reminder to pick it up. I only got around to it a few weeks ago. It's supposed to be an anthology of essays, short stories, and anecdotes.

So far, the first short story was great, but I'm getting stopped up on the first essay. The closest thing I can liken it to is a post-painterly abstractionist analysis of television, as in, how the television has evolved from a representational medium to something that is exaggerative of its own limitations, and qualities, be they good or bad. The only problem with this essay is that it was written in 1997, before the internet and more importantly, the saturation of reality TV. His arguments regarding the reflexivity and voyeurism of television don't quite apply anymore.

Anyway, I noticed that I forgot this book two days in a row, and really haven't missed it. I noticed that a few days last week, even though I had the book in my bag, I opted to just sit and enjoy my music rather than read it. I *could* skip to the next piece and see if it picks up at all, but somehow that feels like cheating.

Thanks to a very clever user icon I saw today, I know what I'm after.
