Hazy Shade of Morning

I was reminded of a strange thing that happened to me early this morning just now when a co-worker asked me when the clocks turn back. My alarm went off at 7:05, and then after negotiating a few time sacrifices, I pushed it back to go off at 7:30. When I woke up, I noticed the sun shining, the birds singing and a pleasant breeze coming in through the window. It was beautiful and pastoral. As I lied there, enjoying the serenity of the morning, I noticed that it was too peaceful. It’s 7:30am on a Monday and I have yet to hear a car alarm, an engine start or a door slam. Since I now have a clock with hands on my bedstand (I suffer from this ailment where when I’m tired enough, a digital clock says whatever I want it to), I was confident that it was in fact 7:30, so believe it or not, the next thought was that yesterday was Daylight Savings and I totally forgot.

I sprang out of bed and ran into my living room to look at the Sunday paper, since they usually say to turn your clocks back whenever appropriate. I looked out the window again. I checked some other clocks. Finally I turned on Headline News and learned that it truly was 7:32 on the east coast. I sat in front of the TV watching the time zones switch around until I realize that all I was doing was wasting more time.

I had completely forgotten about that until just now.
