Things I have learned about Japan based on the behavior of my neighbors:
The television sets in Japan have a calming influence on infants. Should your child be crying loudly, simply turn your television up so that it is louder than the baby's cries. This will soothe the baby into a calm quiet.
In Japan, doors are specially designed so that if the person you're trying to visit is not at home, knocking on the door constantly for 10 or more minutes will cause the desired party to be transported to the residence in order to accept the visitor.
More facts to come as observation and research continues.
